Renault Symbioz hybrid CUV hits spotlight, due out this summer

Renault has unveiled its next crossover, the Symbioz. It will go on sale in July, but the main specifications are already here.

The car utilizes the company’s CMF-B platform and is sized 4,413 x 1,797 x 1,575 mm (172.4 x 70.2 x 61.5 inches). The wheelbase is just as compact at 2,638 mm (103 inches). The trunk can fit up to 624 liters (22 cubic feet) of cargo if you push the rear seats forward as far as they would go. With the seats in their normal position, the space shrinks to 492 liters (17.3 cu. ft.).

The Symbioz is envisioned as a hybrid-only, front-wheel-drive crossover. As such, it comes with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine assisted by two e-motors. The engine itself produces 95 PS (94 hp / 70 kW), while the combined output tops out at 145 PS (143 hp / 107 kW). The company claims a mixed-cycle fuel economy of 4.6 liters per 100 km (51 MPG), but the battery pack is tiny and cannot store more than 1.2 kilowatt-hours of energy.
