Tesla Cybertruck gets its first off-road software pack

Tesla has announced an optional upgrade for its Cybertruck pickup that’s designed to improve its off-road performance. Users will be able install the update remotely, but the availability date is still pending.

The biggest addition is a new drive mode called Overland, which should provide a consistently better experience when driving the heavy electric truck over gravel, rocks, snow and sand. It introduces inter-wheel diff lock imitations capable of redirecting the torque to the wheel(s) with the best traction. Only pickups with two or three electric motors on board can benefit from it, though.

Another added preset, Baja, improves handling while reducing the involvement of the stability control systems to a minimum.

There is also a new off-road cruise control preset called Trail Assist. It can maintain a constant speed when driving over rough terrain and even manage the adaptive suspension settings to account for the current weight load.

Last but not least, there’s a preset called CyberTent Mode. As the name implies, it is meant for camping. Once activated, it fine-tunes the suspension in such a manner as to keep the body of the truck perfectly level above uneven terrain for better sleeping comfort. It also supports unlimited running modes for the climate control and lighting on board.
