2nd-gen GAC Aion V lands in China

GAC has brought the second generation of its all-electric Aion V crossover to the China Auto Show last week. It won’t go on sale until July, so let’s have a look at the updates in the meantime.

The vehicle is 4,605 mm (180 inches) long with 2,775 mm (108.4 inches) between the axles. The AEP chassis it uses supports 400V electric wiring all around.

The biggest changes are inside the cabin. The driver’s cockpit benefits from a smart UI and offers a number of driving assists adding up to a semi-autonomous driving system. When fully charged, the EV has around 750 km (466 miles) of range. The battery cells benefit from a different chemical composition, charging 60% faster than in the first generation. This means you can plug the Aion V into a charger for 15 minutes and get 370 km (230 miles) of CLTC-rated range, GAC says.
