Audi Introduces Q9 and SQ9 Three-Row SUVs

Audi has introduced the new Q9 and SQ9, large three-row SUVs designed to offer more interior space than the current Q7 model. The Q9 features a 429-hp V-6 engine, while the performance-oriented SQ9 is equipped with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine, producing 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered through an eight-speed automatic transmission and a Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

The SQ9 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. It also has a towing capacity of 7,700 pounds. The vehicle incorporates extensive sound deadening, resulting in a subdued engine note compared to previous S models. The SQ9's new Quattro system is designed to provide a more rear-wheel-drive feel, utilizing an electronically controlled clutch and rear differential lock to distribute torque between the axles. An electronically controlled limited-slip differential on the rear axle further enhances agility.

Standard features on the SQ9 include rear-axle steering, which allows the rear wheels to turn up to five degrees, and brake-based torque vectoring. The vehicle is fitted with six-piston front calipers and 16.5-inch rotors. Both the Q9 and standard SQ9 models share identical suspensions, featuring adaptive dampers and air springs. The SQ9 also offers an optional adaptive air suspension package with revised components and a lowered ride height.

Audi states that the Q9 and SQ9 were developed with the American market in mind, focusing on comfortable highway driving and maneuverability in urban environments. The SQ9 includes Audi’s first Level 2 semi-autonomous system, which allows hands-free driving at speeds up to 85 mph on specific roads.
