SsangYong reveals new Korando pics, specs and details

South Korean car manufacturer SsangYong has released the first teaser images showing the upcoming next generation of its Korando SUV. It has also revealed a few important details concerning the update.

In its new version, the car will become longer and wider, with new dimensions being reportedly comparable to those of the Volkswagen Tiguan. Its exterior lines will be more elegant, and the sides more sculpted.

The photos show the top trim of the new SsangYong Korando, complete with a 10.25-inch instrument display, seven airbags and contour lighting. Lower trims will ship with a standard, non-digital instrument panel and a smaller infotainment display.

The company has only announced one engine so far, a 1.6L turbo diesel with 136 hp (101 kW). This version can be purchased with either manual or automatic transmission, the latter unlocking the 4WD option. There will be a gasoline engine in the lineup later on.

Standard and available equipment includes LED lighting, multimedia with a 9-inch touchscreen display, two-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, AEB, blind spot monitor, and lane control.

Pre-orders for the new SsangYong Korando are already available in South Korea, with prices ranging between U.S. $19,700 and $25,000. Shipments will begin in spring.
