Lexus releases a 60,000-hour long movie about Takumi masters

Japanese car manufacturer Lexus has filmed a documentary titled “TAKUMI: A 60,000 Hour Story on the Survival of Human Craft”. In Japan, the word “takumi” is used to refer to a person who has spent countless years perfecting his/her craft and reached its very pinnacle. If for whatever reason the 60,000-hour long full movie is too much for you, there is a 54-minute long abridged version available as well.

The motion picture follows the stories of a carpenter employed in one of the world’s oldest construction enterprises, an automobile expert, a chef with two Michelin stars in his portfolio, and a traditional paper cutting artist. They all tell us their stories: why they picked this line of work and why they chose to dedicate their entire lives to it.

Lexus employs the services of Takumi artisans in designing the ornaments for its range-topping LS model. It is they who carve the Kiriko glass panels for the doors and handcraft the front grilles.
