Fiat announces the 500 EV

Despite being around since 2005, the Fiat 500 hatchback remains a highly popular car model in Europe. This is not to say that the Italian car manufacturer does not realize the need to move with the times. On the contrary: the next-gen Fiat 500 has already been announced, and it is going to ship with an all-electric powertrain.

The idea behind the new 500 is to make an urban EV with nice, partly Tesla-inspired looks. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is currently working on creating a brand-new platform that the car will be based upon.

Chances are good that the Fiat 500 EV gets to inherit certain features of the innovation-laden Centoventi Concept the company unveiled at the recently concluded 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The manufacturer has not confirmed it officially yet, though.

The all-electric hatchback is definitely going to cost more than its gasoline-guzzling counterpart, but Fiat assures us it will continue offering the gasoline model, too.
