Lotus unveils the Type 130, its first hypercar after 10-year hiatus

British performance car maker Lotus has confirmed that has been working on a new hypercar. Called the Type 130, it will be the first vehicle released by the company after a 10-year break. The production quantity will likely be limited to between 20 and 50 units.

The model name actually references certain iconic models released by the British marque decades ago. In particular, these include the Type 111 (Elise) with its extruded aluminum frame and the 1957 Type 14 Elite with its compound space-frame architecture.

The new Lotus Type 130 uses a carbon monocoque body and comes powered by an electric powertrain designed by Williams Advanced Engineering to produce 1,000+ horsepower (745+ kW). Once fully charged, it can cover up to 400 kilometers (250 miles).

The hypercar sports two large air vents in the rear, a digital dashboard, an active aero kit with the patented Drag Reduction System (DRS), and cameras instead of conventional side mirrors.

Like the current Lotus Evora, the new Type 130 is 4,400 millimeters (14.44 ft.) long. Lotus promises to reveal more specifics before the end of 2019.
