6th-gen Subaru Outback goes turbo

Japanese car manufacturer Subaru has taken the wraps off its sixth-generation Outback estate/wagon. For the first time in a decade, the model will ship with a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine rated at 264 hp (197 kW) and 376 Nm (277 lbft) of torque.

You will still be able to order it with a regular, naturally aspirated engine with 2.5 liters of displacement and 184 hp (137 kW). Regardless of your choice, the car will ship with an AWD system and a CVT.

The car comes based on the ultra-durable, high-tensile steel chassis of the current-gen Forester crossover/SUV. The company claims that the new architecture absorbs more impact energy, thus improving the safety of the driver and passengers.

The model’s list of standard equipment and features now includes adaptive cruise control and the Subaru Eyesight safety package. Paid options include a 180-degree frontal view camera, rotating LED headlights, lane control, Wi-Fi, 12-channel audio, and ventilated front seats.

The new Outback is said to have much better overall noise proofing along with optimized suspension. Its trunk lid now opens farther up for convenience and can be equipped with an automatic lock.

Last but by no means least, the Outback is now available with the 11.6-inch vertical multimedia display of the latest Subaru Legacy. You may use it to access all major functions of the car.
