De Tomaso’s first sports car to debut in July

Resurrected Italian car marque De Tomaso will unveil its first sports car at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed starting in early July, the company reports. The new vehicle was designed by the same team that brought us the 780-hp / 582-kW strong Apollo Intensa Emozione hypercar.

The newcomer goes by the provisional name ‘Project P’ right now, with the manufacturer promising to reveal its final market name later on.

Chinese company Consolidated Ideal TeamVenture purchased the rights for the De Tomaso brand a few years ago. It has also acquired the Apollo brand since then.

Media first learned that a new De Tomaso-branded vehicle was in development in March 2019, when two camouflaged test mules were spotted on public roads in Geneva, Switzerland. The first of these was the Intensa Emozione, while the second just might have been a modern reincarnation of the De Tomaso Pantera (this hasn’t been confirmed, though).

It remains unclear just whether the new De Tomaso is a standalone car model or a restomod of the original vehicle, but the teaser images show what looks like a very convincing recreation of the classics. Some media even claim that the photos depict an actual Pantera produced in the 1970s.
