A unique Opel Zafira concept debuts at the Opel-Treffen 2019

The Opel-Treffen 2019 show held in Germany last weekend attracted over 50,000 brand fans and featured over 10,000 exhibits. One of the main reasons behind the sheer scale of the event was the 120th anniversary of the German car manufacturer. Coming prepared, Opel has unveiled quite a few innovative or otherwise nostalgic vehicles and special editions at the show, but this O-Team Zafira Life van seemed to be the crowd’s favorite.

The ‘O-Team’ part of the name is by no means coincidental. The legendary GMC G20 Vandura compact van series came out in the USA in the 1980s and instantly won popularity points for being featured in ‘The A-Team’, a TV series dedicated to a detachment of the U.S. Special Forces. The Vandura ultimately became the source of inspiration for the original Zafira. As for the ‘O’ instead of ‘A’, you have probably guessed it by now. You should have.

The full-size van sports such trademark features of its spiritual predecessor as the ‘fat’ wheels, the bumper, the side sills, and the roof wing. The attention to detail is great overall, making it all the less explicable that the replica should wear a Neon Yellow paintjob, rather than the original bright red one.

Powering the unique O-Team Zafira Life is a modern 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine rated at 177 hp (132 kW) along with 400 Nm (298 lb×ft) of maximum torque. Partnered to an eight-speed automatic transmission, it actually performs better on the road than the 200-hp / 150-kW strong V8 of the Vandura.

Other notable features include a sound module that does a decent job imitating the roar of a gasoline V8, slammed air suspension, 20-inch BBS forged wheels wrapped in Michelin Cup 2 tires, performance brakes, and a cabin brimming with state-of-the-art tech and other goodies.

Production prospects are non-existent for this particular prototype, the company reports.
