Renault working on a Clio-based SUV

Given how popular crossovers and full-fledged SUVs are on the international market, you will be challenged to find a manufacturer that still does not offer one. Even the subcompact class is pretty popular (you are invited to check the sales performance of the Fiesta-based Ford Puma if you have any doubts). And now it seems like Renault wants to join the club with an SUV version of its Clio hatchback.

The spy shots depict a test mule that looks like a previous-gen Renault Clio, but has quite a bit of extra ground clearance. In fact, the production vehicle might even ship with AWD.

The SUV will most likely share its main architecture and components with the latest Clio and Captur. If this assumption proves true, then we should expect it to ship with a wide variety of powertrains, including combustion, hybrid and even all-electric.

The company refrains from any comments so far. The alleged Clio SUV will most likely premiere straight after the launch of the new Captur, which is currently in development.
