1,014-PS Porsche Taycan rival from Mercedes-AMG spied testing in winter

Mercedes-AMG is testing a new car that might end up being the successor to the AMG GT (see video). According to Autoevolution, which provided these spy shots of a production-close prototype, the car runs on a brand-new chassis and packs close to 1,000 horsepower (750 kilowatts). The premiere is expected in late 2025.

This isn’t the first time car spotters have seen an AMG GT successor on the roads, but all earlier versions were test mules. In contrast, this one obviously sports an all-new body under all the camo, complete with pull-out door handles and pronounced rear fenders. Some images also provide a sneak peek at a headrest in the middle of the rear row, suggesting that the car is a five-seater.

Rumor has it Mercedes is developing its new supercar on an innovative architecture known as the AMG.EA. It is envisioned as an evolutionary step forward from the MB.EA platform currently being developed for the next generation of mid-size and full-size EVs. Compared to the current AMG GT model, the electric car will apparently have a longer wheelbase. This will enable it to offer more room for the passengers while also freeing up more space under the floor for a larger battery pack.
