Hyundai Santa Cruz gets an update heading into next model year

Hyundai has unveiled the 2025MY Santa Cruz pickup at the New York expo; let’s have a closer look.

On the outside, you will recognize the new version by its rectangular grille pattern, DRLs designed to rhyme with the new grille, and updated wheels. Rockwood Green and Canyon Red round off the new color options. Opting for the XRT package will get you geometrically optimized bumpers for better approach/departure angles, a special radiator grille design, and front towing eyes. For the first time on record, the model can be ordered with 18-inch wheels shod in proper off-road tires.

A peek inside reveals a single curved dash display created by merging a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with a same-sized infotainment screen. The steering wheel and the climate vents have been redesigned, and there is a small shelf for miscellaneous items above the glove compartment. The rear bench seat is now separated with an armrest offering two cup holders.

New tech features include a digital key fob, a fingerprint scanner, support for OTA updates, and wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity. The new Santa Cruz makes use of Bluelink+ Connected Car services and comes with the integrated Hyundai Pay payment system. Added USB-C ports will no go amiss, either, and those going for the XRT trim will also know to appreciate surround-view cameras and blind spot monitoring – two features that used to be premium but are now included in the trim price.

The old 2.5-liter engines are unchanged. There is a naturally aspirated one rated at 194 PS (191 hp / 143 kW) and 245 Nm (181 lb-ft) of torque, and a turbocharged one that’s good for 285 PS (281 hp / 210 kW) and 422 Nm (311 lb-ft) of torque. The former option is bundled with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the latter with an eight-speed DCT. Both can be optioned with an HTRAC AWD system now capable of Sports Mode (more torque gets directed to the rear wheels). Owners of the Limited and XRT trims who opted for the turbo engine also get a dedicated trailer assist mode.

The sales will begin in the autumn.
