Surprise, surprise: Italy demands Alfa Romeo Milano production moved from abroad

The state authorities deemed it misleading and illegal on Alfa Romeo’s part to introduce a car named after one of Italy’s best known cities only to have it produced in Poland afterwards.

Adolfo Urso, Minister of Economic Development of Italy, said he believed there would be nothing Italian in a Polish-made vehicle. Aside from being disingenuous on the manufacturer’s part, it can also confuse the customers and violate some of the local customer protection laws, he argued.

In his defense, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares responded that moving the production of the Alfa Romeo Milano from Poland to Italy would see it get a €10,000 price hike.

Well, it looks like there’s a drama brewing between the U.S. automotive concern and the government of Italy. We will keep our eyes on the news and let you know how the dispute develops.
