Video: Unveiling a hyperrealistic Ferrari 250 GT replica

Amalgam Collection, famous producer of richly detailed luxury car replicas, has shared a video guide on using one of its creations – a 1:8 replica of the limited-run Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta. It includes unpacking and shows how to open the doors and the hood, among other things.

As usual, the company consulted the automotive history experts from Ferrari Classiche and even scanned the original car’s chassis to ensure that the reproduction is accurate. The toy car may be just 56 cm (21.9 inches) long, but it takes roughly 400 hours to piece together from many thousands of small parts.

Judging by the video, the shipment doesn’t just include the replica. There’s also a special brush to keep the body clean at all times and a pair of white cloth gloves that you’re supposed to wear when touching the scale model. And there’s much to touch there: the hood cover rests on actual functioning stays and pops up when you press a button under the front fascia. Tiny lock buttons can be engaged to open the doors, too.

Production plans exist for only 199 such replicas worldwide. The pricing is secret, but Amalgam cars based on exotic Ferraris usually tend to cost €15,000 or close. Customers can pay extra for exterior and interior customizations. The company also invites all owners of the genuine 250 GT to order a replica of their specific car, colors, trim and all.
