BMW XM to get a 1,000-PS rival from Mercedes-AMG

Mercedes-AMG is working on an extremely powerful electric SUV to rival the BMW XM superhybrid, Carscoops reports. The premiere is penciled in for 2026.

The one unique trait of this rumored new SUV is that it will allegedly be designed by AMG in a standalone fashion. Unlike the company’s previous models, it will not be based on any single Mercedes-Benz. The name is still unknown.

Rumors claim the electric ride will have AWD, 4WS and air suspension in the base spec. It is envisioned as a vehicle “on a whole new level of performance and handling”, even by the AMG standards.

Size-wise, the SUV will reportedly be similar to the current Mercedes-Benz GLE, which is shown in the gallery and the video below. Aside from the XM, it will have to compete against the Aston Martin DBX and the Lamborghini Urus in their market niche. The details likely won’t crop up until closer to 2026, though.
