Reports: More than a half of Xiaomi SU7 preorders have been cancelled

According to the reports of the mass media in China, more than 50% of all people who had ordered an all-electric Xiaomi SU7 have since voided their order.

The IT giant’s first foray into the automotive world caused quite the hype wave among Xiaomi brand fans. It helped that the car had excellent specifications for the price. As a result, the company reported registering 88,898 orders on launch day.

Customers were asked to make a 5,000-Yuan advance payment refundable within a week. Apparently, 55% of the potential buyers cancelled their reservations when they heard about the car being on an 8-month backorder.

The current production capacities of Xiaomi and its automotive partner, BAIC, max out at just 9,000 SU7 units per month.
