Rumor: Jaguar considers a Chery platform to produce its EVs on

Interesting details have just emerged about the British premium sports car maker apparently being interested in licensing Chinese tech as it continues its move upmarket.

Last year, the leadership of the Jaguar brand officially announced an intention to transform the badge from premium into luxury. To do so, the company had originally planned to develop its own vehicle platform known as the JEA (Jaguar Electrified Architecture).

However, according to multiple reports of Chinese mass media, the automaker has seemingly abandoned the idea of investing time and money into developing its own platform. Instead, it was looking into licensing an existing design from Chinese automaker Chery.

There has been no official confirmation for these rumors so far, but Chery CEO said that a few European automakers had shown interest towards the company’s EV technology not long before. He declined calling them by names. Jaguar Land Rover and Chery have been running a joint enterprise in China since 2012.
