GMC postpones Sierra EV launch

The sales start of the all-electric GMC Sierra pickup has been pushed back to summer 2024. When it was introduced a year and a half ago, the truck had an estimated launch date in “early 2024”.

Even when it does go on sale, it will do so in a maxed-out “welcoming” trim called the Edition 1, so those who wanted a somewhat affordable electric Sierra would have to wait even longer. On the plus side, the company expects to be able to offer it starting from $99,500 – a fair deal less than the original estimate ($108,700).

It’s worth pointing out in this context that the Chevrolet Silverado EV – a truck based on the same platform and powertrain – haven’t had much success on the market. Chevrolet did manage to deliver it exactly when promised (Q2 2023), but the sales summed up to a dismal 461 units last year. In view of this, we aren’t surprised at all to see GMC being so reluctant about releasing the battery-powered Sierra.
