Ram 1500 RHO touches down in the USA

The Ram 1500 truck lineup received its latest update last fall and is now welcoming a new member to the family – the range-topping RHO version. It basically continues where the 1500 TRX left off, excelling at fast-paced off-road driving despite no longer packing a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 under the hood.

The new truck makes do with a turbocharged inline-six engine from the new Hurricane series. It pushes out 548 PS (541 hp / 403 kW) and 706 Nm (521 lb-ft) of torque – considerably less than the 712 PS (702 hp / 524 kW) and 881 Nm (650 lb-ft) of the TRX. On the upside, the new mill weighs 70 kilos (around 150 lbs) less than the old one and is much less expensive, too.

Ram claims that the RHO sprints almost as fast as the TRX, needing 4.6 seconds to go from standstill to 96.6 km/h (60 miles per hour). The old pickup did the same in 4.5 seconds. Top speed stays unchanged at 190 km/h (118 mph), and the quarter-mile time isn’t too bad for a truck at 13.1 seconds.

The eight-speed automatic transmission, the BorgWarner transfer case with 2.64:1 reduction gear, the rear axle with its electronic diff lock and the entire suspension carry over from the TRX. The Bilstein Black Hawk e2 shock absorbers needed some tuning to account for the smaller weight of the truck, but that’s about it. Compared to the regular Ram 1500, the flagship edition enjoys an additional inch (25 mm) of rear suspension travel and two inches (50 mm) of added ground clearance – for a total of 11.7 inches (300 mm). It rides on 18-inch wheels shod in 35-inch tires with beadlock protection. The maximum wading depth is 813 mm (31.76 inches).

Customers in the United States will start receiving their 2025 Ram RHO orders in the third quarter of 2024. Prices start from $71,990, including the destination fee.
