Geely and Baidu bet on Nvidia supercomputer tech for their “smart” EVs

Jiyue, car brand co-founded between Geely and IT corporation Baidu, is now working on a new generation of semi-autonomous electric cars running on Nvidia hardware. According to CarNewsChina reporting from the Beijing expo, the company also revealed its long-anticipated Jiyue 07 liftback.

The liftback will not be getting the smart self-driving tech announced at the show, though – at least, not outright. It is slated to reach the market sometime in the second half of the year, whereas the first EVs powered by Nvidia Drive Thor chipsets are only expected to ship in 2026.

The Nvidia Drive Thor is a centralized computer specifically designed for use in the so-called Software-Defined Vehicles. Instead of using a multitude of independent electronic control units (ECUs), these vehicles rely on a single global system that governs all their functions, from the powertrain and driving aids to infotainment features.

Details are still scarce, but Jiyue should reveal more about the technology as it progresses towards market release.
