Check out a DeLorean running on Ferrari power

The Ferrari-swapped DeLorean DMC-12 cropped up at the last year’s SEMA event in Las Vegas, but it still wasn’t drivable back then. Now that the build is complete, it has hit the spotlight of Caffeine and Octane in Georgia, boasting 3.5 times the original power.

In case you forgot, the iconic time travel machine from Back to the Future had a 2.9-liter V6 under the hood. It produced a meager 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) and was considered pretty weak even by the standards of the early 1980s.

Tuners from DeLoreanTECH procured this particular example without a functioning engine, so they decided to source one from a crashed 2012 Ferrari California coupe/cabriolet.

The 4.3-liter V8 is now fully set up and delivers around 460 PS (454 hp / 338 kW) to the wheels – a massive upgrade over stock. The DeLoreanTECH team had to reinforce the backbone chassis a lot in order to keep it stiff – the original car was infamous for its soft, wobbly frame. They also replaced the transmission with a six-speed manual one borrowed from a Porsche 911. KW coilovers and larger brakes rounded off the build.

The exact acceleration figures remain unknown, but they have to be vastly better than those of the vanilla DMC-12, which took 10.5 seconds to get to 60 mph (96.6 km/h).
