Back in 2012, Shelby offered a highly exclusive Mustang tuning package targeting its own GT500 and Super Snake specifications. Once installed, it boosted the engine output to 1,014 PS (1,000 hp / 747 kW) – the most power any Shelby vehicle ever had. Rewind to the present day, and one of these is up for grabs in as-new condition.
The extreme Shelby Mustang 1000 features a 3.6-liter Kenne Bell supercharger alongside racing-grade injection, an improved fuel system and forged engine internals. It can sprint 0-96.6 km/h (0-60 mph) in roughly 3.7 seconds while remaining street-legal in the United States.
To help the driver control that kind of RWD power at least somewhat, Shelby upgraded the brakes, the rear axle and the driveshaft. They also installed stiffer springs, sportier shocks and a vented carbon-fiber hood.
There is no mention of the pricing, but the original Shelby 1000 started around the $200,000 mark. This particular example was one of the last cars personally supervised by the company founder Carroll Shelby shortly before his passing later that year, so it might be of some interest to collectors. It also helps that it belonged to David Yurman, a well-known U.S.-based jeweler, who had only put 1,565 km (973 miles) on the odometer since taking delivery of the car.
