You’d think enough years had passed for the Takata drama to subside, but it seems to be far from over with 441,000 Citroen C3 and DS3 being under a no-driving order from Stellantis right now.
Most C3 and DS3 models assembled for Europe from 2014 until 2019 are affected. The company launched an investigation following a driver’s death in France caused by a faulty airbag and concluded that all units were to be replaced. The bag deployed at a seemingly random moment without any provocation, so all drivers are considered at risk until they replace theirs.
Takata airbags ended up in the midst of a massive scandal back in 2013 when an investigation linked their faulty design to numerous false deployments, many of those leading to deaths and injuries. The company went bankrupt in 2018.
