While many automakers rush to scrap their electrification plans, Bentley seems resolute to carry out its own. The British company’s first SUV EV – now officially known as the Torcal – has recently shown up in a video highlighting its interior.
Although the short vid and the screenshots above are hardly informative, they nonetheless make it clear that the SUV takes a detour from the company’s usual designs. The key shape inside is the rhombus, or diamond as the company itself insists on calling it. The diamond has been associated with Bentley cars for many decades now, but this may be the first time it’s seeing such active use.
See for yourself: fine diamond patterns adorn the radiator grille, the headlights and the taillights, and numerous interior trim details. The seats are clad in – you guessed it – diamond-stitched leather, and even the less used buttons, such as the HVAC controls, sport the same ornament.
Responsible for the design is Cumbria Crystal, a UK-based vendor of luxury crystal glassware.
We don’t know what kind of powertrain lies at the heart of the Torcal, but rumors insist that the company borrowed it straight from Porsche’s Cayenne Electric. That one packs 1,156 PS (1,140 hp / 850 kW) and gets around 644 kilometers (400 miles) per charge.
