Chevrolet debuts an electric racing truck, will sell something similar

Chevrolet has attended the Mint 400 off-road racing event this weekend with a very special Silverado ZR2 EV. It won’t become a mass-produced model, but a similar power package will become available for the standard Silverado EV.

In case you missed it, the battery-powered truck can output up to 770 PS (759 hp / 566 kW) along with 1,063 Nm (784 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. The extreme build shown here easily surpasses its “civilian” counterpart with 1,115 PS (1,100 hp / 820 kW) coming from three e-motors.

It also rides on Multimatic adaptive shocks and benefits from a lift kit that lets it have over 330 mm (12.9 inches) of suspension travel. New wheels shod in 37-inch BFGoodrich tires, skid plates and auxiliary lights round off the build.

The truck has completed this weekend’s Mint 400 run in the Open Production EV category. In the summer, Chevrolet promises us a special package called Trail Boss for the regular Silverado EV. It will be the first off-road package offered by the OEM for a fully electric vehicle. We should look forward to more ground clearance, 18-inch wheels with 35-inch tires, recovery hooks, and a special drivetrain preset called Terrain Mode.
