EMC fashions a frugal 250GD into an opulent restomod

U.S.-based Expedition Motor Company a.k.a. EMC has unveiled a Mercedes-Benz 250GD looking like a fully featured and comfortable modern off-roader – even if the company itself insists it’s “period-correct.”

Right off the bat, the thing that catches your attention is a vivid orange finish known as Magma Beam. It goes along nicely with glossy black details including a slew of aftermarket body kit parts, a robust-looking roll cage, and 17-inch Stahl wheels.

If the interior of the original 250GD was rather austere to say the least, the EMC version of it looks decidedly more human-friendly with premium leather upholstery and oakwood accents all around. That’s arguably not very “period-correct”, but you won’t find us complaining, that’s for sure.

As for the 2.5-liter five-cylinder diesel under the hood, it was allowed to retain its duty with some upgrades to the surrounding components. In the end, the output went up from 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) and all the way to 225 PS (222 hp / 165 kW). It looks like EMC hasn’t posted any sprint times, but the 50% power increase is a win in our books, regardless.
