Morgan launches Supersport from £85k

Morgan Motor Company has introduced its latest flagship, the Supersport. It is a premium two-seat vehicle shipping with two tops: a foldable soft top and a removable carbon roof. You can already pre-order one as long as you are ready to pay from £85,000 for the finished car.

The Supersport rides on a brand-new aluminum platform called the CXV. IT weighs as little as 102 kilos (225 pounds) and is still 10% stiffer than the old one, Morgan claims. Installing the carbon top mentioned above improves the rigidity by a further 10%. 

Revisions were made in the steering mechanism and the suspension geometry, and weight savings across the board enabled the car to tip the scales at just 1,170 kg (2,580 lbs). That’s not bad for a vehicle 4.1 meters (160 inches) long.

The old-and-proven BMW B58 powers the ride with six cylinders, three liters of displacement, 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. A ZF eight-speed automatic carries the torque to the rear axle, letting the sports car hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds. The top speed is capped at 267 km/h (166 mph).

The company claims that the Supersport has the best dynamic performance of all six-cylinder Morgans to date. It helps that it exhibits 5% less drag and 20% less lifting force.

Customers can choose from multiple option packs. For example, Dynamic Handling adds an LSD along with Nitron suspension springs and adjustable shocks. You can also replace the stock 18-inch wheels with exceptionally light 19-inch ones.
