Xpeng P7+ bows in China

Xpeng has presented what it called “the first AI-powered car on the market” – a flagship electric hatchback named the P7+. It’s already shipping to the dealerships, but full specs and prices won’t be revealed until the sales start on November 14, AutoHome.cn reports.

Coming in at 5,056 mm (197.5”) long, 1,937 mm (75.7 in) wide and 1,512 mm (59 in) tall with 3 meters (117.2 in) between the axles, the newcomer is the largest light passenger car in the Xpeng portfolio. Its aerodynamic shape grants it a low drag ratio of just 0.206, and the trunk can hold up to 2,221 liters (78.43 cubic feet) of cargo with the seats folded down. Buyers can choose from five exterior colors and wheels sized up to 20 inches in diameter.

Equipment-wise, the Xpeng P7+ offers massage and ventilation functions across all seats, climate control with a built-in air freshener, a panoramic sunroof and a 15.6-inch infotainment display powered by a Qualcomm 8295 chipset. One of the killer features, according to the manufacturer, comes in the form of a much-improved self-driving system that can now recognize objects faster from farther away. It has more processing power than any other Xpeng semi-autonomous vehicle and can be used in visual-only detection mode without a costly LiDAR. The company boasts that driver’s intervention is now needed much less often than before, but doesn’t provide any specifics.

The powertrain specs remain to be announced, but they aren’t really secret thanks to leaked patent data. According to those, there will be two single-motor options: 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW) and 313 PS (309 hp / 230 kW). The former will be bundled with a 60.7-kWh battery pack and offer 620 km (385 miles) of range. The latter will benefit from a bigger 7.63-kWh pack and 710 km (441 miles) of range.
