Scout announces 3rd production car, makes dealerships angry

Volkswagen’s decision to resurrect the Scout brand in the United States is proving to be a success with the audiences, but distributors want their share of the pie.

After premiering its electric SUV and pickup truck scheduled for launch in 2027, Scout has now announced a third model – the Harvester. It looks like a short-wheelbase SUV with a removable top and solid off-road credentials. It won’t reach production any sooner than the Traveler and the Terra, though.

In the meantime, dealerships in the USA are threatening Scout Motors Inc. with lawsuits in a number of states. The reason? Just like Tesla, the automaker plans to sell its EVs directly to customers, letting them finalize orders online in several minutes. This inevitably means huge losses for all the intermediaries. It remains to be seen whether the dealers stand a chance against VW Group in the court, though.
