BMW 858 CSL restomod goes from virtual sketches to reality

A while ago, independent designer Jon Sibal speculated on what a modern BMW 8-Series CSL supercar would look like. His 3D renderings would have remained just that if Reyn Speed Shop hadn’t decided to base their next project on them.

The result is known as the BMW 858 CSL, and it has just celebrated its premiere at the Monterey Car Week. Envisioned as a lightweight car, it wears an all-carbon body with new bumpers, fender flares, headlights and vented hood. The BMW hubcaps on the wheels are original, but the wheels themselves were custom-made for the project.

Last but not least, the stock engine under the hood made room for a mighty V10 borrowed from the E60-generation M5. It stays naturally aspirated, but benefits from a displacement increase from the original 5 to 5.8 liters. As a result, it likely hits the wheels with more than the standard 500 PS (493 hp / 368 kW) and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque.
