Renault ditches the top spec of its 1.3 TCe engine

The 1.3 TCe powertrain rated at 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW) is no longer available in Renault cars in Europe.

This means that the Renault Captur, Arkana and Austral produced for the EU market are missing out on their most powerful engine option. In 2025, the company plans to retire the two remaining 1.3-liter turbo four-pot options as well. One is rated at 130 and the other one at 140 PS (128 and 138 hp; 96 and 103 kW, respectively).

In all cases, Renault plans to replace this engine with a recently upgraded 1.2 TCe three-cylinder turbo. Assisted by a 48V starter-generator, this engine delivers 140 PS without the downsides of its predecessor.

The recently unveiled Dacia Bigster is already being produced with the 1.2 TCe under the hood.
