Ford sees no point in big, chunky EVs

Ford CEO Jim Farley let it slip in a recent interview that he saw no sense in electrifying full-size off-roaders and trucks.

He admitted that doing so necessitated batteries that are too large, heavy and expensive to produce en masse. With power cell technology being where it is at today, designing an efficient and affordable large vehicle on it is virtually impossible. Serial hybrids a.k.a. range extenders are much more viable in this regard.

He also voiced an opinion on the impending tariff hikes announced by President Donald Trump. According to Farley, this move would only mess with the profits of automakers and raise the end prices of all cars for consumers without bringing any benefits to compensate. He admitted that it could be somewhat more efficient if it were enforced for the entire industry as a whole, instead of individual car companies and brands
