Jaguar Unveils Type 01 EV, Targeting Upmarket Segment

Jaguar has unveiled its Type 01 electric vehicle, marking a strategic shift for the brand. The four-door EV's design is described as radical, drawing inspiration from the Type 00 concept. This launch follows the brand's move to end production of its combustion-powered models.

The Type 01 is based on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) and comes equipped with a 118-kWh NMC battery and an 850-volt electrical architecture. It supports 350-kW DC fast charging, allowing for a 10-80 percent charge in 22 minutes. The EV features three electric motors, delivering a combined 1,015 horsepower and 1,007 pound-feet of torque. Jaguar states an EPA driving range of 400 miles.

The exterior design includes a front without a typical grille, gloss-black intakes, and a charging port on the driver’s side front fender. It has a high shoulder line, a low roof, and small side windows, complemented by a panoramic glass roof. Other features include multi-spoke wheels, flush door handles, and conventional wing mirrors. The vehicle also lacks a rear window.

The interior features a two-spoke steering wheel with touch surfaces. Instead of a large infotainment screen, it has a 24-inch digital instrument cluster for vehicle information and navigation. A smaller seven-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen on the central spine controls climate and audio settings. The Type 01 also incorporates a 'ClearSight Rear View Display' in place of a traditional rearview mirror. Order books are expected to open early next year, with deliveries anticipated in the second half of the year. Prices are expected to start at approximately £130,000 in the UK and $130,000 in the US.
