Mitsubishi prepares a rugged Outlander for North America

The U.S. office of Mitsubishi has shared a teaser pic previewing a couple of new vehicles. We’ve already seen the rebadged Nissan Leaf, so let’s focus on the other one: the Outlander Trail Edition with an off-road upgrade package on top.

The company unveiled the Trail Edition in the summer (see video). It received a new body kit, some rugged trim inside and out, 18-inch special wheels and lots of options including mud tires, roof racks etc.

The Outlander seen here takes the Trail Edition and elevates it another notch by adding actual overlanding equipment and features. According to Mitsubishi, these include body reinforcements, new drive modes and a boosted engine.

The company’s iconic Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system that brought it whopping 12 victories in the Dakar Rally series and other WRC events will also be installed. In fact, Mitsubishi goes as far as to claim that the upcoming Outlander will “take [the S-AWC] to a whole new level.”

The off-roader is slated for debut in financial year 2026, which starts on April 1, 2026 and ends on March 31, 2027. There is no specific date.

As for the other pending premiere, the body outlines and the lighting suggest that it’s merely a rebadged Nissan Leaf EV. With how similar it looks to the original, major changes are unlikely.
