Kia Sonet receives a makeover for Indonesia

Despite its status of an international model destined for around 70 markets around the globe, Kia’s smallest SUV – the Sonet – is still only produced at one location in Anantapuramu, India. Things may change soon, however, as the soft-roader hits the showrooms in Indonesia.

The Indonesian spec differs from the Indian one in terms of the bumpers and the radiator grille. It is also 125 mm longer (4,120 mm) and 5 mm taller (1,615 mm, or 1,642 mm if you count the roof rails). Width and wheelbase stay unchanged at 1,790 and 2,500 mm, respectively.

Powering the car is a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine rated at 115 hp (86 kW) and 144 Nm (106 lb-ft), which pairs up with either six-speed manual or IVT. The engine is not available in the India spec, but powers the Kia K3, the Hyundai ix25 and the next-gen Creta. All-wheel drive is not an option, but you can at least use the Multi Terrain Control system with its multiple selectable drive modes. The wheels measure 16 inches in diameter, by the way.

Things stay stock inside. There’s a 10.25-inch infotainment system, a dashboard with a black-and-white odometer gauge screen, analog instruments and a 4.2-inch display. The front seats are ventilated, and the trunk has 392 liters of room.

In its most basic configuration, the India-spec Sonet has only two front airbags, a front parking sensor and an ABS. The Indonesia spec is better off with six airbags, a stability control system and parking sensors at both ends of the vehicle. Bose audio, wireless charger and LED lighting are available as paid options.
