Vanspeed’s latest California Coast combines comfort and utility

California-based camper specialist Vanspeed attended a Vans + Coffee event last weekend, allowing us a take a closer look at its latest creation, the California Coast.

Based on the Mercedes Sprinter chassis with 3,360 mm (131.25 inches) of wheelbase, the California Coast has plenty of room on board for everything ranging from furniture to sports gear and tools. By default, it ships with a bed for two in the back that transforms into a sofa and a dining table when not used. The kitchen includes a sink, two induction stoves, a fridge with a freezer, and assorted drawers and cabinets.

Vanspeed also includes an outdoor shower and climate control into the main sec. The interior is heat-insulated for better power efficiency, and the exterior wears a rugged body kit for wilderness trips. There is a Baja-style front bumper, an expedition rack with a solar panel on the roof, a spare wheel at the back, an access ladder and some auxiliary lighting.

The power is still supplied by the standard diesel four-pot obtainable in two forms – 172 or 214 PS (170 or 211 hp; 127 or 157 kW, respectively). You will have to ask someone other than Vanspeed for a tune-up if you want it.

Prices for the California Coast camper line start from $65,000. There are four main versions to choose from, three of them easily getting into the six-digit USD territory with all the option boxes ticked.
