Porsche 944 Shooting Brake Conversion Offered

A German specialist, CarPoint, is offering a shooting brake conversion for the Porsche 944, named the GT-K44. This conversion can be applied to any 944 model, regardless of its powertrain. The process involves significant hand-crafted work, including cutting and welding the body, installing custom rear glass, and refinishing the interior with new materials and a custom headliner, followed by new paint.

The GT-K44 is not a restomod; the car retains its factory powertrain. The proof-of-concept vehicle features a 3.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 211 horsepower, but the conversion can also be performed on a 944 Turbo. The concept of a customized transaxle Porsche is not new, with earlier examples such as a 924 Turbo shooting brake built by Günter Artz.

CarPoint's founder, Andreas Freund, previously owned and drove Artz's 924, which reportedly influenced his decision to offer a similar treatment for the 944. The cost for the conversion work is approximately $113,000. This figure does not include the price of acquiring a Porsche 944 for the conversion.
