Morgan previews its next flagship

Morgan Motor Company, a British niche automaker specializing in low-volume production of retro cars, has shared a couple of images of its next, still-nameless flagship. The coupe is running tests in camo, packs a BMW turbo-six under the hood and benefits from a new architecture. The launch is scheduled for this spring.

Morgan warns that the images should not be interpreted as final, because the exterior of the pre-production car is still being worked on. Even so, the retro vibes are unmistakable and charming. The company said before it was going for a more modern look with better aero this time around, but it doesn’t seem too different from its older works.

As for the new platform, it is called CVX and is an evolutionary step forward from the current Morgan chassis. Made largely of aluminum, it is lighter and stiffer than the current one.

The only thing we know about the engine is that it comes from BMW and has six cylinders. The exact engine model is unknown, and Morgan has never installed the Bavarian marque’s most powerful mills into its cars. For example, the Morgan Plus Six (see video) makes do with 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW). We wouldn’t expect much more here.

Having said that, the newcomer is slated to replace the Plus Six model on the lineup, so it would make sense for it to be at least as powerful as its predecessor.
