Subaru queues up 3 stick-shift models for launch over the next 18 months

The Japanese automaker has posted a teaser showing three cars scheduled for launch before the end of 2027. The description clearly states that all three will arrive packing a manual transmission as standard.

Despite the drapes, you can still easily discern the outlines of the WRX sedan and the BRZ coupe among these. As for the third one, Subaru calls it an affordable five-door hatchback. We suppose it could debut on the same platform as the last year’s Performance-B STI Concept, albeit with a much simpler body kit if the shape is any indication. It’s also being billed as a “tuning-friendly” car with a “unique character” distinct from Subaru’s other vehicles on the current lineup.

The other outline unmistakably belongs to a WRX sedan. It gets to inherit its predecessor’s TY85 six-speed manual gearbox and reportedly won’t have an automatic option. The automaker doesn’t say much about the engine, but we suppose the 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four mill of the current generation makes for a solid candidate.

As for the third debutant, it looks like a special edition of the current BRZ coupe. Equipment-wise, we expect it to come with new shock absorbers, performance brakes and a special body kit. Whether it will offer any extra power on top of the current version’s 231 PS (228 hp / 170 kW) is still up to speculation. Subaru unveiled a pretty hardcore 280-PS (276-hp / 206-kW) variant of the BRZ for a rally championship in April, but never said anything about mass-producing this version. You can take a closer look at it in the video above.
