Subaru WRX Reintroduces Base Trim, Adjusts Pricing

Subaru has reintroduced the Base trim for the 2026 WRX model year and adjusted pricing across the lineup. This move aims to make the performance car more affordable, with prices reportedly returning to levels below those of 2024 models.

The price adjustments follow a reported 41 percent decline in WRX sales last year. This decrease was attributed to price increases for the 2025 model year, which Subaru implemented due to tariffs. The company has decided to reduce its margins on the WRX and reintroduce the Base trim to better align the vehicle with its target audience. Following these changes, WRX sales for June 2026 were reportedly up 252 percent compared to June 2025.

The 2026 WRX Base starts at $33,690, which is $1,500 less than the WRX Premium. This entry-level model now includes 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels and keyless access. Standard features also encompass an 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control, cloth seats, LED headlights, and leather on the steering wheel and shift lever.

All WRX trims are powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four engine, producing 271 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on all trims except the GT, which is equipped with a CVT. Instrumented tests show the WRX can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and complete a quarter-mile in 13.9 seconds at 101 mph.
