Rivian to provide platform for the VW Golf EV

The upcoming all-electric Volkswagen Golf will be based on Rivian underpinnings, the company has confirmed.

Volkswagen signed a cooperation agreement with U.S. EV startup Rivian last summer. The companies agreed to unite efforts in the research and development of efficient EV powertrains, as well as cheapening their production costs.

There are no further details at this point, but it looks like the ninth-generation Golf will utilize an 800V electric system and will be made in Germany.
