Modern Chevy Camaro makes its best 1969 Chevelle SS impression

A Mecum Glendale auction is underway that will see this modded 2015 Chevrolet Camaro find a new owner.

Most retromods like this one involve taking the chassis of a modern car and putting the body of a retro car on top of it. This project is a bit different, because it only borrows a few parts from a 48-year-old Chevelle SS and still pulls off a fairly convincing look.

These notably include the hood cover and the radiator grille. The builder also reshaped the fenders slightly to imitate the proportions of the Chevelle and replaced several body panels with custom ones fabricated from carbon-reinforced glass fiber. Working largely alone, he invested over 2,000 hours into the project.

The interior stayed stock except for a rear view mirror and headrests inspired by the original car. The Camaro’s standard 6.2-liter V8 continues pushing 432 PS (426 hp / 318 kW) to the wheels through an automatic transmission, according to the listing.

The bidding will take place in Glendale tomorrow, March 21.
