C8 Corvette becomes a hit in Japan a year ahead of shipment

For the first time on record, Chevrolet will be offering a right-hand drive variant of the Corvette – which seems like a sensible decision, because the company has received 300+ pre-orders from Japan within 60 hours from the announcement.

The Japanese office of General Motors emphasized that the interested demographic was very diverse, ranging from 20 to 70 years old. That said, most pre-orders came from big cities like Tokyo or Osaka.

The Chevrolet Corvette is substantially more expensive in Japan than the United States: the sports car starts from U.S. $58,900 on the domestic market, while in Japan, its price ranges between 10 and 14 million Yen. This roughly corresponds to between $91,000 and $127,000.

Furthermore, those who pre-ordered their C8 Corvette in Japan will have to wait until next spring for the actual shipments to begin. All of the above considered, it is safe to call the car a hit on its new market.
