Technology
Reporters from France have learned that Stellantis intends to start equipping its cars with a steer-by-wire technology supplied by JTEKT in Japan.
JTEKT is currently owned by Toyota and already produces steer-by-wire solutions for Toyota- and Lexus-badged cars. We are told that Stellantis plans to localize component production in France.
Reportedly, Peugeot will be the first brand to take advantage of this technology. Its next-gen 208 hatchback scheduled for release in 2027 is expected to have a steering wheel not directly connected to the wheels, instead relying on a complex mechanism to translate the steering inputs into wheel motions.
