Now Official: Porsche 911 isn’t going all-electric until at least 2030

In a recent interview with CarSales, Porsche Australia CEO Daniel Schmollinger confirmed that the company no longer plans to release an all-electric variant of its most popular car – the 911 – until the end of the decade.

Commenting on the decision, Schmollinger admitted that the target audience of the 911 is rather conservative and not eager to trade their favorite ICE sports car for anything new just because it’s trendy or eco-friendly. On the flip side, fans of the company’s other vehicle lineup – the Porsche 718 – tend to be younger and more receptive of such ideas on the whole. This is why the new Boxster and Cayman were designed with electrification in mind.

Although the interview may sound optimistic enough, Porsche’s EV prospects are vague at best right now. Having incurred nearly $1.5 billion in losses in Q1 due to its poorly planned electrification strategy, the Stuttgart automaker had to start considering major cost cuts to stay afloat. Its e-bike business and battery pack R&D facility are now being quoted as the first candidates for shutting down. And while Schmollinger mentioned the new Boxster and Cayman, he didn’t reveal why neither went into production in February 2026 as planned. Their launch date is currently stated simply as “2026”.
