Even mass-market American cars are hard to find on the streets of Japan, with classics like this 1970 Chevrolet Camaro being veritable unicorns. Still, created by well-known JDM specialists Jun Takahashi and Kei Miura, it exists and is actively participating in the country’s racing events.
As you may know, Kei Miura is the owner of the famous aftermarket shop TRA-kyoto, which produces over-the-top body kits called Pandem Rocketbunny. The white Camaro in the gallery here is wearing one of those, complete with a low-slung front splitter, matching side skirts and fender flares, and a rear lip spoiler. The whole looks quite cool with all the decals applied throughout.
As for the engine, it was rebuilt for drag racing. Originally rated at 6.5 liters of displacement, it was stroked out to 6.6 liters and further upgraded with high-end components from Comp Cams, Manley, Black Widow and other reputable brands. As a result, it currently produces around 507 PS (500 hp / 373 kW) at the crank. A four-speed manual transmission with an LSD at the rear axle conveys the momentum. New four-link suspension and a set of 15-inch RS Watanabe wheels round off the chassis modifications.
And then there is the cabin, which lost its back seat row in favor of a roll cage. The front seats became racing buckets, a Number7 Racing steering wheel was installed along with a Hurst gear lever, and other drag-friendly modifications were made to make this Camaro look like a true JDM machine.

This 1970 Chevrolet Camaro embodies a striking blend of American muscle car heritage and Japanese tuning prowess. The extensive modifications by Jun Takahashi and Kei Miura, including the signature Pandem Rocket Bunny body kit, give it a distinctive and aggressive look that stands out in Japan's car culture. The performance enhancements, particularly the engine rebuild and upgrade to 500 hp, coupled with the four-speed manual transmission and advanced suspension system, transform it into a formidable drag racing machine. The interior modifications, focusing on safety and racing efficiency, further reinforce its dedication to performance. Overall, this Camaro is a rare and impressive example of cross-cultural automotive innovation, seamlessly merging the best of both worlds.
