Hyundai says IR cabin heating tech is a success, plans to make it standard

The Korean automaker has tested infrared interior heating devices in a number of markets and found them very efficient. This innovative method of heating will soon find use in many other cars produced by the company.

Infrared heaters can be installed in the armrests and the dashboard at knee level to generate plenty of warmth while saving power. Compared to the traditional heaters, they are much more directional and effective, and can expand EV range by up to 17%, Hyundai claims.

Moving forward, the company will be installing these heaters in a number of new cars. The specific list of models hasn’t been revealed.
