BMW pours vegetable oil into cars

The Bavarian automaker says it is pouring a liquid called HVO100 instead of diesel fuel into its vehicles at all factories to keep the carbon footprint down.

The HVO100 was designed by Finnish company Neste from different kinds of reprocessed food waste, including recycled vegetable oil. It is good enough to keep the engines running and should cut the CO2 emissions by 90%.

The only caveat is that BMW plans to use the oil in service vehicles employed at its manufacturing sites and nowhere else. Customers will never see it.
